With the economic recession and employment rates rising, finding a good job is harder than it has been in decades. Needless to say, the old reliable method of simply looking for work in the classified ads just won’t cut it these days.

That is why millions of people search for work online each end every day. But before you perform your very first job search , there are several things you should know.

To begin with, there are literally thousands of sites you can visit to search for jobs in your area, and some of these sites are free, while others will ask you to submit a nominal fee.

Now, you may ask — why should I pay for a service I can get for free? Well, as you might expect, the paid sites are the ones that offer the plum positions, while many times the free job databases will only offer entry-level jobs. And if you are executive the chances of you finding an attractive position on a free site is approximately slim to none.

But with paid sites the job openings are generally more attractive for one simple reason — they are paid to post them and they are paid by their members, which gives them the resources to create a number of helpful features. For example, many paid databases will allow members to talk to each other in job forums, where they often offer each other job hunting advice. The paid sites may also post videos or articles with valuable advice from professionals in the field.
